Sometimes matrix multiplication is presented as a choice that happens to work out. On the contrary, linearity completely specifies how matrix multiplication must work. There is some choice in how we happen to write matrices, but the multiplication rule is completely specified regardless. I try to show this, quickly, in A brief development of matrix multiplication.
I also listened to two audio books. Khan’s book on LLM education was more fruitful than the one about Rockefeller.
